Sophia Hashemi is an interdisciplinary printmaker and collage artist from Austin, TX. She earned her BFA in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin in 2022 and is currently pursuing an MFA at Syracuse University, intricately exploring the tensions between the desire to communicate and the desire to hide within her work. Enamored with the limitless potentials of print, she's eagerly drawn to manipulate and transform the 2D medium into radical forms. Her work becomes a meditative exploration, offering a personal journey through the contours of existence. Inspired by themes of temporal existentialism and emotional metamorphosis, Hashemi's work serves as a contemplative exploration of our individual experiences, emotions, and surroundings. Through meticulous observation and process-based making, she navigates the complexities of thought and memory, inviting viewers to reflect on the ever-changing landscapes of the human psyche. In an increasingly fragmented world, her work offers a contemplative space for introspection and understanding. Hashemi's thematic symbolism and attention to detail capture fleeting moments that linger in memory, inviting viewers to pause and contemplate the nuances of their own existence within the tapestry of human consciousness.
