Metaphorically, shadows are recognized as an unconscious aspect of the personality that the conscious ego actually doesn’t identify in itself. “The Shadow Self” renders this idea of the unconscious mind fragmented into different “selves”. Looking inward and observing our personas of what we show, in comparison to what we hide, each are formed from suppressed ideas, impulses, desires, and perversions. It is not until we are aware and face what’s hidden that the shadow work begins.
